The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has taken decisive action, suspending the permits of three private jet operators found to be engaging in unauthorised commercial flights.

Acting Director General of the NCAA, Chris Najomo, issued a stern warning to all airlines, emphasising the government’s stance against the misuse of private jets for commercial purposes.

Najomo highlighted that the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, had previously instructed the cessation of private jets’ commercial use in 2023.

Despite this directive, certain operators persisted in violating regulations, prompting the NCAA to intensify monitoring efforts and issue warnings.

“After heightened surveillance and thorough monitoring of private jet activities across Nigerian airports, three operators were found to be in breach of regulatory provisions,” stated Najomo.

“In line with our unwavering commitment to upholding aviation standards, the NCAA has suspended the permits of these operators.”

Additionally, the NCAA mandated a comprehensive re-evaluation of all non-commercial flight permit holders by April 19, 2024. Operators were directed to submit relevant documentation within 72 hours for scrutiny.

Furthermore, the regulator emphasised that aircraft listed in the Operation Specifications of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) were the only ones authorised for charter services.

“Any AOC holder intending to utilize aircraft for charter operations must seek approval from the NCAA to transfer the aircraft from the Private Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) permit to the AOC operations specification,” clarified the NCAA.

Amidst these developments, the NCAA urged the public to prioritize safety by only patronizing charter operators holding valid Air Operators Certificates. This crackdown underscores the regulatory body’s commitment to maintaining integrity and safety standards within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
