Amidst the anticipation surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Ondo governorship elections, concerns have emerged from two aspirants and the agents of two other contestants.

Allegations of favoritism and irregularities have cast a shadow over the integrity of the process.

One of the aspirants, Olugbenga Edema, voiced his dismay over delays in the distribution of materials, calling for a thorough investigation into the conduct of the exercise.

“We demand a credible election where every vote counts,” Edema emphasized, urging the party leadership to address the discrepancies or consider postponing the primary.

The primary committee, chaired by Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State with former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege as secretary, faced criticism for deviating from the planned schedule.

Edema highlighted discrepancies in the distribution of voting materials, undermining the transparency of the process.

Similarly, another aspirant, Williams, echoed Edema’s concerns, emphasizing the importance of adhering to due process for the party’s success. He called for accountability within the committee and emphasized the need for transparency in the electoral process.

The Olusola Oke Campaign Organization labeled the exercise as a “sham,” denouncing the lack of democratic conduct and alleging incidents of violence and intimidation at designated voting centers.

Shola Ajisafe, the agent of Adewale Akinterinwa, further corroborated the allegations, accusing Governor Ododo of bias and advocating for a fair and transparent rerun of the primary.

With sixteen candidates vying for the party ticket, including notable figures such as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Jimoh Ibrahim, the stakes are high for the APC in the forthcoming governorship election.

However, amidst the controversy surrounding the primary, the integrity of the party’s selection process faces scrutiny.

As the APC grapples with allegations of irregularities and favoritism, the spotlight now turns to the party leadership to ensure transparency and uphold the principles of democracy in the selection of its candidate for the Ondo governorship race.
