The Kano State Anti-Corruption and Public Complaints Commission have escalated their pursuit of justice, filing new charges of corruption and maladministration against the former governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Chairman of the anti-graft commission, Muhuyi Magaji, revealed the latest developments during an appearance on Channels Television, describing the ongoing investigations as just the beginning of uncovering extensive financial irregularities by previous administration in the state.

Magaji detailed instances where substantial sums, such as N51.3 billion from local government funds, were allegedly siphoned from government coffers and diverted to unauthorized recipients.

He highlighted a pattern where significant sums, including N1 billion, purportedly designated for road renovations, were diverted to Bureau de Change operators instead.

These allegations, according to Magaji, are part of a broader investigation into financial mismanagement during Ganduje’s tenure.

Despite his appointment by Ganduje himself, Magaji affirmed his commitment to pursuing justice impartially, signaling a refusal to shield any individual from accountability.

The intensifying scrutiny on Ganduje comes ahead of his arraignment in the Kano High Court on charges related to bribery, diversion, and misappropriation of funds.

The former governor’s alleged acceptance of substantial bribes, totaling $413,000 and N1.38 billion, has drawn significant public attention and placed pressure on his leadership role within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While some APC officials in Ganduje’s ward have moved to suspend him pending the resolution of these charges, the state party executives have dismissed these actions, underscoring the mounting tensions within the party over the corruption allegations.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Ganduje’s political future hangs in the balance, with the outcome likely to have far-reaching implications for both the APC and the broader political landscape in Nigeria.
