Nigerian Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani has noted the pivotal role of the semiconductor industry in driving digital disruption amid the rise of digital technologies.

In a post on his X platform on Thursday, Tijani emphasizes that as digital technologies continue to reshape our world, the semiconductor industry remains a crucial player in enabling this transformation.

Anticipating the growth of artificial intelligence, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and other Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, Tijani predicts an increasing demand for semiconductor chips to power these advancements.

He stressed the challenges faced by the semiconductor industry, particularly in meeting the global supply demand, primarily due to a shortage of skilled talent.

Tijani expresses optimism as he witnesses the signing of an agreement between SecureID Limited, a leading Nigerian smartcard manufacturing company, and SEMI Europe, an association of major companies in the semiconductor industry.

This agreement aims to address the talent shortage in the semiconductor sector, thereby contributing to bridging the gap in global supply.

With Nigeria aspiring to become a net exporter of tech talent, Tijani views this collaboration as a significant opportunity for the country to engage in the semiconductor ecosystem.

He eagerly anticipates the potential outcomes of this partnership, highlighting Nigeria’s ambition to play a more prominent role in the semiconductor industry.
