The Dangote Fertilizer plant located in the Lekki free trade zone, Lagos may be commissioned and ready for full production any time from now as the owner embarks on test production.
According to the group executive director of the Dangote Group, Devakumar Edwin, the plant is currently producing fertilizer samples for laboratory tests.
“We have started the commissioning process, but that is being prolonged,” Edwin said on Monday.
He said; “We are producing samples in storage and once it is tested and approved we can commission the plant.”

The fertilizer plant, which is regarded as the second largest of its kind in the world is set to help the country meet all its domestic demand and have surplus for the export market.
The $2 billion fertilizer plant, being constructed by Saipem of Italy and Tata Consulting Engineers of India, has the capacity to produce three million tons of fertilizer a year.
The fertilizer facility is in the same location with the 650,000-barrels per day crude oil Dangote refinery, also reputed to be one of the world’s biggest on completion in 2021.
The company said by the time the plant is fully commissioned, the country will become self-sufficient in fertilizer production and even have the capacity to export the products to other African countries.
