Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Charles Soludo escaped being killed by some unknown gunmen, who invaded his country home while addressing some youth, but his three Police orderlies were no so lucky as they were gunned down.

Sources said Soludo was whisked away from the scene of the incident as the gunmen unleashed terror, shot three policemen and abducted the state commissioner for Public Utilities, Emeka Ezenwanne, who was at the event at the time of the attack.

Soludo, sources said was attacked at Isuofia in Aguata LGA, during an interactive session between him and Isuofia youths.

The former CBN governor is running for the governorship of Anambra State on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and was believed to have the backing of the present governor of the state.

As of the time of this report, the whereabouts of the ex-CBN governor was unknown, but sources said he escaped from the scene unhurt.

The attack may be politically motivated as Soludo recently joined the governorship race in the state, and he is said to have the endorsement of Willie Obiano, the outgoing governor of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the incident said he was still gathering information on the matter.
