The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has taken decisive action by suspending Dana Airline operations over concerns regarding safety and financial viability.

Acting through the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, the ministry issued a directive to suspend the airline’s operations in the country until a comprehensive audit could be conducted.

The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Meribole stressed the urgency of the situation in a statement titled ‘Immediate suspension of Dana Airline pending safety and financial health audit.’

The decision comes in the wake of an incident where an aircraft belonging to the airline skidded off the runway at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The statement, addressed to the Director General of NACA, underscored the need to prioritize the safety and well-being of citizens and travelers.

It cited recent incidents involving Dana Airlines as raising serious concerns, prompting the Minister’s directive for immediate suspension until a thorough audit is completed.

Meribole outlined the scope of the audit, which is expected to cover safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health to ensure full compliance with aviation regulations.

The decision reflects the government’s commitment to upholding aviation safety standards and ensuring the integrity of airline operations within Nigeria.
