The Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, has called upon the members of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms to construct a comprehensive roadmap aimed at revitalizing the nation’s economy.
During a meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Vice President Shettima expressed his expectation that the committee, under the leadership of Chairman Taiwo Oyedele, would devise a robust strategy capable of addressing the country’s economic challenges.
“The responsibility before you is substantial. I hold the belief that your team comprises exceptional minds capable of formulating a comprehensive roadmap that will reconfigure our economic landscape by tackling the fundamental issues underpinning our fiscal and tax policies,” Vice President Shettima remarked. “Fiscal and tax policies are pivotal to the achievement of any nation’s economic growth.”
Vice President Shettima conveyed his confidence that the committee would craft a plan to ameliorate the nation’s predicament, acknowledging the existing governance and challenges that have hindered Nigeria’s progress. He spoke highly of his superior’s determination and principled approach in the Nigerian political arena.
Highlighting the significance of fiscal policy and tax reforms, Vice President Shettima emphasized their potential to facilitate resource mobilization. He directed the committee to formulate recommendations that can yield prompt results in light of the current economic realities.
“With the present global trends, our focus should predominantly center on domestic resource mobilization. Even the world’s largest economies are grappling with this reality,” Vice President Shettima noted.

He further underscored the crucial role of fiscal policy and tax reforms in fulfilling national ambitions, which have gained international dimensions in the face of geopolitical shifts and the rise of BRICS nations.
Commending the committee’s composition, Vice President Shettima applauded the president’s commitment to the committee’s mandate. He praised the impeccable character, integrity, commitment, and patriotism exhibited by the committee members.
In response, the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, Zaccheus Adedeji expressed the committee’s interest in collaborating with the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by the Vice President. He stressed the need for effective cooperation with sub-national governments, crucial stakeholders in the committee’s mission.
The Committee Chairman, Taiwo Oyedele shared his enthusiasm for the opportunity to redefine Nigeria’s fiscal policy framework. He articulated the committee’s dedication to their mandate, which encompasses fiscal governance, revenue transformation, fiscal competitiveness, and the facilitation of economic growth.
Oyedele assured that the committee would engage with Nigerians both domestically and internationally, soliciting insights from diverse segments of society. He also affirmed the committee’s readiness to collaborate with sub-national governments through the NEC to fulfill its mandate.
The delegation representing the Presidential Committee included Kyari A. Bukar, Tayo Aduloju, Ismaila M. Zakari, Prof. Abiola Sanni, Dr. Chinyere Almona, Abubakar Suleiman, Bamate Ogara-Lawson, Taminu Yakubu, and Muhammad Nami.
