Terrorists attack Abuja-Kaduna train as troops step in to dislodge attackers

A report on Monday night has it that a train carrying over 900 passengers was bombed by suspected terrorists between Rijana and Katari in Kaduna State.

A passenger was reported to have called his relation, saying all passengers were lying on the floor as the terrorists were shooting at the train.

Though details of the incident were sketchy as of the time of this report, sources said it was the train track that was bombed while the train carrying 970 passengers is being held hostage by terrorists.

The government is said to have deployed troops to the area to restore order.

In October last year, gunmen had attacked a Kaduna-Abuja train, causing panic among Nigerians and passengers using the route.

Also, early this month, a Lagos-Ibadan train stopped mid-way after reportedly running out of diesel.

The minister of information, Lai Mohammed had on Monday said the federal government has done well on ensuring safety via rail transport.

We are proud that in our time, Nigerians are once again able to travel by rail, this time in total comfort and safety,” he said.
