The spate of insecurity in the country further heightened at the weekend as gunmen kidnapped Niger state Commissioner for Information Mohammed Sani Idris in his country home in the state and Andred Beita a Swiss in Ogun State.
Idris was kidnapped on Sunday in his country home in the Tafa local government Area of Niger state while Andred Beita a Swiss expatriate was abducted along Ibese-Itori Road in Ogun State on Friday.
Though details of his abduction are still sketchy but the Secretary to the state government Ibrahim Ahmed Matane confirmed the incident saying the commissioner was picked from his house.
“The gunmen forced themselves into his house at Babantunga in Tafa local government area from where he was abducted.
“We have alerted all the security agencies since yesterday, they are already on the trail of the kidnappers,” Matane said.
“We pray that he is safe,” Matane said.
The abduction of Idris is the second within three days of top politicians in the state after that of the APC Zonal Chairman for Zone C, Aminu Bobi.
Bobi was picked by yet unknown gunmen from his farm in Mariga local government area of the state.
The abductors have not made any contact with either the abductees’ family, the APC or the government.
Also, on Friday suspected bandits kidnapped the Chief Executive Officer of Olabel Farms, Andred Beita and his driver simply identified as Ifeayin along Ibese-Itori Road in Ogun State and killed a drive in his convoy.
Beita, a Swiss expatriate was said to be in the company of the Chairman of the farm, Ola Bello after inspecting a silo projects of the company around Dangote Cement In Ibese when they came under attack from the kidnappers who riddled their vehicle with gun bullets.
Bello was said to have excaped with the police escorts but a driver in the convoy Michael Kujore died from the injury sustained during the attack.
The Swiss was abducted with his driver, while the abductors have since got in touch with the Chairman of the farms with strange telephone number for negotiations.
