SEO is more than submitting your website on Google and Bing as earlier stated in our 101 SEO Guide. You also need to optimize your content for SEO. They are various tools and plugins available for that. Although, here are some basic things your website should be optimized for.

Search Engine Optimisation

Mobile friendliness

Over 63% of Google search comes from mobile devices. In 2016, Google announced a ranking factor meaning they crawl and index the mobile version of your page.
Most people will leave your page faster than a hot potato if it doesn’t show well on their mobile devices. Therefore, making your site mobile-friendly improves search rankings and your SEO score. To test the mobile-friendliness of your site, you can use Google’s free tool

Site Speed

Your site’s speed is a major ranking factor for search engines and customers! The same things apply for this; the slower your page is the fewer conversions. The advised loading time is 0.3 seconds.
There is also a Google’s free page speed checker

Keyword Research

Using any of the WordPress SEO plugins that would be mentioned below, would require putting keyword for your content. Keyword are words or terms that your content should rank for

Backlinks

Backlinks are links from other websites that link to yours. Backlinks are used to measure the Domain Authority of a website. When search engines see the amount of (quality) backlinks your site has, it feels your content is useful and ranks you higher.

Quality Content

Use short sentences and paragraphs. Simplify your content and make it easy to use for those with special needs
Aim to make your content as valuable to visitors as possible. Make it less wordy by breaking things up with images or quotes. Make your content skimmable.
Generally speaking, the more accessible your content is to the majority of searchers, the better.
Freshness is another important factor for some searches. Your content needs to be made anew especially if the old content doesn’t apply any longer. When searching, most people will go for results with the latest content.
