The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio implored members of the political class to ground their ambitions for political positions in a clear vision and mission to serve their constituents.
He made these remarks during a funeral service held in honor of Late Aniema Donald Etiebet, daughter of the esteemed former Governor of old Cross River State, Donald Dick Etiebet, in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Accompanied by fellow Senators, Akpabio paid tribute to the deceased as an unwavering supporter who possessed foresight and a deep understanding of the trajectory of the Senatorial District. He attributed his successful emergence as the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, and subsequently, his election as the President of the 10th Senate, to Aniema’s unwavering dedication.
“A chip off the old block,” the former Governor remarked, praising Aniema’s tenacity. During a critical juncture when misguided individuals congregated at Ritman University in opposition to Akpabio, Aniema stood her ground and rallied support in favor of the Senate President.
Her unwavering commitment and fervent prayers ultimately prevailed, leading to a resounding victory for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.
Akpabio further called upon women to embrace and emulate the visionary traits exhibited by the late Aniema. Not only was she his sister, but she also proved to be a stalwart political ally, steadfastly supporting him and effectively dismantling all attempts to undermine his aspirations.
The Senate President’s remarks carry weight, resonating with the political class, as he emphasizes the need for politicians to cultivate a forward-thinking mindset in their pursuit of political office.
By aligning their aspirations with a clear vision and a genuine desire to serve their constituents, politicians can establish a solid foundation for effective leadership, fostering progress and development.
Akpabio’s message serves as a timely reminder to politicians, encouraging them to transcend personal gain and prioritize the long-term welfare of their communities.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the call for visionary leadership becomes increasingly crucial, shaping the trajectory of nations and paving the way for a brighter future.
