Senate confirms President Buhari’s 7-ministerial nominees

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed seven persons nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari for ministerial positions.

The red chamber confirmed the nominees on Wednesday after they were screened by the “committee of the whole” chaired by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

The ministers-designate will replace those who resigned to pursue political bids.

The nominees are, Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh – Abia State; Umana Okon Umana – Akwa Ibom State; Ekumankama Joseph Nkama- Ebonyi State; and Goodluck Nana Opiah – Imo State.

Others are Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub – Kano State; Ademola Adewole Adegoroye – Ondo State; and Odum Odi – Rivers State.

Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbonnaya Onu, Godswill Akpabio and Emeka Nwajiuba are some of the ministers who resigned to pursue presidential bids.

Meanwhile, the Senate adjourned the plenary for two weeks on Wednesday after the nominees’ confirmation to enable members to enjoy the Eid-el Kabir celebrations in their various senatorial districts.
