The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has unveiled Professor Uchenna Joseph Uwaleke, the foremost Nigerian professor of capital markets, as the keynote speaker for its 2023 annual conference.

Confirming this prestigious selection, the Chairman of the GOCOP 7th Conference Planning Committee and Deputy President, Danlami Nmodu disclosed that Uwaleke, currently serving as the Special Adviser to the Senate Committee Chairman on Capital Market, will deliver the keynote address on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Abuja Continental Hotel (formerly the Old Sheraton Hotel) in Abuja.

A press statement from GOCOP’s Publicity Secretary, Remmy Nweke, quoted Danlami as revealing that Prof. Uwaleke’s keynote address will center around the theme “Nigeria: Roadmap for Socio-Economic Recovery and Sustainability.”

The conference will be chaired by Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB).

Danlami further explained that the choice of this theme is rooted in the current socio-political and economic dynamics facing Nigeria, marked by the emergence of a new crop of leaders at the national and state levels following the 2023 general elections.

Nweke highlighted Uwaleke’s impressive academic background as a professor of finance and capital markets at Nasarawa State University, Keffi. He also noted that, until recently, Uwaleke held the position of Finance Commissioner in Imo State during the tenure of Emeka Ihedioha.

The statement further recalled distinguished past speakers at GOCOP’s annual conference, which included the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Yakubu Mahmood, who, in 2022, addressed the gathering on ‘2023 Elections: Managing the Process for Credible Outcome.’

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan Kukah delivered the 2019 lecture on ‘Economy, Security, and National Development: The Way Forward.’

In 2021, Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, keynoted the conference, focusing on ‘Post COVID-19 Pandemic: Recovery and Reconstruction in Nigeria.’
