President Tinubu favoured candidate, Abbass emerges speaker of House of Reps with 353 votes

A member representing Zaria federal constituency, Tajudeen Abbass, emerged as the Speaker of the House of Representatives in open votes, in which members announce the candidate in a voice voting for their candidates.

Abbass is the candidate favored by President Bola Tinubu for the position and endorsed by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

Of the 359 elected members of the House, a total of 353 votes voted for him in a voice vote to defeat the immediate past Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase scored 3 votes, and Sani Jaji pulled 3 votes.

The ruling party had zoned the positions of both presidents of the Senate and House of Representatives to the south and west, respectively, with Abbas as speaker and Godwills Akpabio as Senate president.

Earlier, Akpabio has emerged as the President of the Senate with 63 votes while Jibrin Barau emerged unopposed as his deputy.
