President Buhari to swear Justice Ariwoola as acting Chief Justice

The presidency has confirmed the resignation of the country’s chief justice Tanko Mohammad and said the next in rant, Olukayode Ariwoola will be sworn in as acting chief justice, according to a presidential aide.

“Justice Olukayode Ariwoola to be sworn-in as acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) by President Muhammadu Buhari today,” wrote presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad on his Twitter handle.

Muhammad resigned his appointment as the head of the nation’s judiciary, citing ill-health as his reason for quitting his position.

Reports claimed that the CJN resigned on Sunday night, in circumstance some analysts trying to link with his recent altercation with the 14 Justices of the Supreme Court over welfare and financial management.

Ariwoola was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2011. His Lordship was a Justice of the Court of Appeal between 2005 and 2011 after having been elevated from the State High Court of Oyo State. His Lordship was first appointed a Judge of Superior Court of record in Oyo State in 1992 from private legal practice.
