The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has expressed deep concern over the impending nationwide protests organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Recognizing the constitutional right to peaceful protest, the IGP has appealed to all parties involved to ensure that the demonstrations proceed peacefully, avoiding any potential takeover by troublemakers, given the history of previous protests in major urban centers across the country.
A statement signed by the force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated that while acknowledging the grievances of the labor unions, the IGP highlights the importance of constructive dialogue in addressing these concerns.
In response to this situation, the IGP has instructed the Commissioners of Police and supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to engage in productive discussions with the leadership of NLC/TUC.

The aim is to establish understanding and seek common ground regarding the planned protests. A coordinated and peaceful approach is deemed essential to achieving substantive solutions and preventing any disruptions to public order or instances of violence.
According to the statement, the Nigeria Police Force is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens during the planned protests. Comprehensive measures have been implemented to facilitate the peaceful conduct of these demonstrations.

The Police are unwavering in their determination to safeguard the nation’s peace and well-being.
In anticipation of potential challenges stemming from the upcoming protests, the Nigeria Police Force stands fully prepared to deploy all available resources to maintain law and order and protect the lives and property of citizens. The IGP urges all officers to remain vigilant, uphold professionalism, and adhere to the highest ethical standards throughout this period.
The Police leadership encourages all stakeholders, including the NLC, TUC, and civil society groups, to embrace peaceful dialogue as the most effective means of addressing grievances. The IGP emphasizes the Police’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for open discussions, constructive engagement, and mutual understanding to enable the smooth exercise of civil rights.
