The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi on Wednesday visited the private home of the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt to confer on the main opposition presidential aspirant.

The meeting between Obi and Wike lasted for a few hours behind closed doors without a communique or statement from the two parties.

Obi’s visit is coming amidst speculations that Wike may dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to the fallout over the presidential primary of the party and the failure of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to pick the Rivers governor as his running mate for the 2023 general elections.

Obi was a member of the PDP until May when he defected to the Labour Party to pursue his presidential ambition.

The Rivers governor was also rejected as the vice-presidential candidate to Atiku despite the speculations that he was favoured by the committee set up to screen some nominees for the position by the party and the presidential candidate.

Eventually, Atiku later announced the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his prefered choice for the position of running mate.

Wike has remained mute since the announcement Okowa as the vice-presidential candidate of his party, but speculations have it that he might work against his party at the next election.

Obi’s visit to Wike comes a few days after David Umahi, the Ebonyi governor who is an All Progressives Congress (APC) member, had met with the Rivers governor.
