Fans of a classic handset who are eager to get their hands on its remake may not have to wait much longer.
Hype around the new Nokia 3310 has been growing since details emerged back in February.
And one UK retailer has listed the phone as available from next month.
Rumours of the release date of the much anticipated handset have been circulating since it was announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), held in Barcelona, Spain. The iconic Nokia 3310 was a massive hit with users back in 2000 thanks to its hardy exterior and custom ring-tones
A spokesman for the manufacturer said at the time that the phone would go on sale during the second quarter of the year.
Some speculated that this could be as early this month, but UK technology retail site Clove has opened pre-orders for the mobile for delivery in mid-June
The website has also upped price expectations from £41 to £59.99 including VAT. The handset won’t work in the US.
The new Nokia 3310, with a slick look that pays homage to its original design, was first unveiled on February 27.
All four colour options, warm red, dark blue, yellow and grey, are listed on the Dorset-based retailer’s site.
The iconic handset was a massive hit with users back in 2000 and the relaunched version will include a month-long battery, 22 hours of talk-time, and even its popular game, snake.
While the handset looks similar to its predecessor, Nokia has brought its new model up to date and instead of the original display, a monochrome 84 x 84, it has a colour screen.
However, it has limited internet capabilities, relying on 2.5G connectivity, with users browsing at speeds slower than if they were using 3G.
It also has a single camera which has just two megapixels.
The phone, which sold 126 million handsets until it was phased out in 2005, will be sold by Finish company HMD Global.
Carphone Warehouse announced in March that record numbers of people had pre-registered for the handset.
They said the 3310 attracted ten times more interest than any other flagship phone previously launched at the MWC.3E19932900000578 0 image a 4 1489052985881
The new 3310 attracted huge interest after details emerged from manufacturer HMD.
Andrew Wilson, UK director of buying at Carphone Warehouse, told the Telegraph: ‘There has been an astonishing groundswell of interest in the Nokia 3310 following the launch announcement of this reimagined classic.
‘Levels of pre-registrations at Carphone Warehouse are incredibly strong, proving that it’s not all hype and that consumers really want to get their hands on one.’
