NNPC says logistics challenges and flooding disrupt fuel supply

The recent fuel queues observed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other parts of Nigeria have been attributed to logistics challenges and severe weather conditions, according to NNPC Ltd.

A thunderstorm disrupted the ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, between Mother Vessels and Daughter Vessels, significantly affecting supply.

The adverse weather has also hindered berthing at jetties, truck load-outs, and transportation of products to filling stations, leading to logistical disruptions.

NNPC Ltd highlighted that compliance with Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) regulations, which prohibit loading petrol during rainstorms and lightning due to its flammability, is crucial to ensure safety.

Additionally, flooding of key truck routes has further constrained the movement of PMS from coastal areas to the FCT, exacerbating the supply issues. NNPC Ltd is actively collaborating with stakeholders to address these challenges and restore a seamless supply of petrol to the affected regions.

Loading has already resumed in areas where conditions have improved, and NNPC Ltd anticipates continued progress in the coming days, aiming for a full return to normalcy. The company urges motorists to avoid panic buying and hoarding of petroleum products.
