Nigerian doctors call off strike, to resume work on Wed

About 63 days after it embraked on nationwide industrial action, the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), on Monday suspended its strike action.

After long hours of deliberation, the National Executive Council (NEC) of NARD led by its National President of NARD, Godiya Ishaya said the suspension will take effect on Wednesday, the October 6, 2021.

He said the decision to suspend the strike was reached after a thorough review of the progress the government had made on their demands.

“We’ve officially suspended the strike to resume 8:00 am on Wednesday. We made the decision in the wee hours of today.

“We held an emergency meeting from 5:30pm on Sunday to the morning hours of today, and the NEC decided that having reviewed the progress made so far, the strike should be suspended,” he said.

The Striking doctors have embarked on a nationwide indefinite strike since August 2, 2021 to press home their demands.
