The Nigerian Army (NA) has voiced its profound dismay regarding the purported involvement of two of its personnel in an alleged case of theft at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the army reiterated its staunch disapproval of such acts of criminality, emphasizing that they are utterly unacceptable and deeply regrettable.

Speaking on behalf of the army, Onyema Nwachukwu noted that such behavior does not align with the core ethics and values upheld by the Army.

The swift intervention of vigilant troops and private security operatives on duty at the refinery prevented the illicit act from materializing fully.

The military’s spokesperson disclosed that the two suspects have been identified and are presently in custody.

Initial investigations suggest that the soldiers were allegedly hired by a civilian contractor, known simply as Smart, who purportedly sought assistance in retrieving Armoured cables left behind on the refinery premises.

However, upon approaching the security post, Smart absconded, leaving the soldiers perplexed and vulnerable to scrutiny.

Further probes are underway to ascertain the extent of the soldiers’ involvement in the incident. Notably, the stolen cables have been recovered and secured.

Collaborating closely with Dangote Refinery management, the army is committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the regrettable occurrence.

Nwachukwu reiterated the army’s pledge to administer appropriate disciplinary measures to the perpetrators, reaffirming that no form of criminal behavior will be tolerated within its ranks.

He emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to instilling values of discipline and integrity among its personnel.

“We remain resolute in fostering a culture of dedication, accountability, and ethical conduct,” General Nwachukwu affirmed, underscoring the army’s dedication to upholding the highest standards of professionalism.
