The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Tuesday said over 180 million telephone SIMS have been linked with subscribers’ National Identity Numbers (NIN).
According to the commission chief executive, Umar Danbatta, this following the capturing of over 60 million Nigerians by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in the NIN database.

Danbatta also said from available statistics, the telecommunications industry has bounced back with broadband penetration peaking at 41 percent while active telephone subscribers have increased by over one million.
He spoke while delivering his address during the Public Inquiry on three Regulatory Instruments on the Rule Making Process at the headquarters of the Commission in Abuja.
Recall the federal government had last year directed all telephone subscribers in the country to link their SIMs with their NIN as part of measures to curb insecurity in the country.
