The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a statement addressing misleading comments circulating on social media regarding the rollout of 5G services by MAFAB Communications in the country.

Contrary to the false claims, MAFAB Communications successfully secured a Fifth Generation (5G) licence during the globally recognized transparent 5G Auction conducted by the NCC on December 13, 2021.

Following the completion of the necessary requirements, including the payment of the $273.6 million fee, the company formally obtained its licence on February 22, 2022.

In accordance with the stipulated rollout conditions, MAFAB Communications officially launched its 5G services in Abuja on January 24, 2023, and subsequently in Lagos on January 26, 2023. The initial launch aimed to cover six key cities: Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, and Kaduna.

The NCC has been diligently monitoring MAFAB’s progress in the deployment of its 5G infrastructure and service offerings, ensuring adherence to the conditions outlined in its operating licence.

The commission maintains that MAFAB has indeed fulfilled the required obligations and has successfully launched its 5G services as planned.

The NCC urged the public and all stakeholders to disregard the false and misleading information circulating regarding the 5G rollout by MAFAB Communications.

5G technology is the fifth generation of wireless communication technology, succeeding 4G (LTE) technology. It represents a significant leap forward in terms of speed, capacity, latency, and connectivity compared to its predecessors.

MAFAB Communications,  a relatively new entrant into the telecom industry won its 5G licence alongside MTN Nigeria during the licencing round by the regulator.
