MTN appoints Madale Group Executive for Sustainability & Shared Value

MTN Group, a leading telecommunications company, announced the appointment of Marina Madale as Group Executive for Sustainability & Shared Value, effective September 1, 2023.

Marina Madale, who previously served as the General Manager for Sustainability and Shared Value at MTN Group, has taken on an expanded leadership role within the company. In her new capacity, she will be entrusted with shaping the strategic direction for the management of Sustainability and Shared Value initiatives, as well as overseeing the work of the MTN Group Foundations across its diverse markets.

With a wealth of experience spanning various sectors globally, including oil & gas, energy, banking, and property development, Marina brings a diverse perspective to her new role. Her career has taken her to multiple countries, including Qatar, Mozambique, Botswana, Gabon, South Africa, and Australia.

Notably, she played a pivotal role in the creation of groundbreaking Community-Local-Development-Agreements and Local-Content-Strategies within Mozambique’s oil and gas sector. Prior to joining MTN, Marina held key senior positions at Sasol.

Within MTN Group, Marina has left an indelible mark by pioneering several transformative initiatives. She led the development of the Group’s science-based targets aimed at achieving net-zero emissions, authored MTN’s first-ever Digital Human Rights Transparency Report, and established the groundbreaking pan-African MTN Skills Academy.

MTN Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, Nompilo Morafo praised Marina’s profound understanding of sustainability and shared value, noting that it has been instrumental in aligning MTN’s commitments and programs with global best practices while addressing African realities.

Morafo further emphasized Marina’s exceptional execution and significant contributions, which have elevated the company’s group-wide strategy and reinforced its commitment to responsible business practices.

“As we continue to navigate an evolving landscape, Marina’s leadership will be pivotal in fulfilling our promise to stakeholders and communities alike“, said Nompilo Morafo.

Marina Madale holds a Master’s degree in Communications from Bond University, Australia, and a Bachelor of Social Science Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
