Lagos to auction 88 vehicles seized for driving against traffic on Wednesday
Again, the Lagos State Government has obtained a court order to publicly auction vehicles confiscated by its task force for driving of against traffic.
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce) on Monday said 88 of such vehicles will soon be auctioned to members of the public following the court order.
In a statement, the task force said the 88 vehicles to be auctioned by the government were impounded by the enforcement team of the Agency and were forfeited by Lagos State Mobile Court.
The vehicles were forfeited by the court in line with Part (3) item (27) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reformed Law of 2018.
The Public Auction would hold in line with Covid-19 protocols on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at the Agency’s Car Park, (Behind Shoprite), Alausa Ikeja, the agency said in the statement.
The task force has, therefore, warned motorists both private and commercial bus drivers to desist from driving against traffic (one-way), reiterating that any vehicle impounded would be forfeited.
“The penalty is outright forfeiture of such vehicle to the government without any option of any fine,” the agency warned in the statement.
This will be the second time the state would auction vehicles seized from their owners after they were found to derive on one way against the state law.
Last November, the task force auctioned 44 vehicles for driving against traffic (one-way) in various parts of the state.
