Lagos diverts traffic on Oshodi-Apapa road over fuel truck explosion

Lagos State government emergency agency said it has diverted traffic on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway following an explosion caused by a lone accident by a fuel-laden truck, which caused severe damage to other vehicles on the road and also caused an obstruction on the road.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Fuel Tanker inferno at LACASERA outwards Mile 2 Oke and FATGBEMS Fuel Station, Apapa- Oshodi Expressway was reported at 1 am on Thursday and plans are ongoing to evacuate the wreckage of the accident from the road.
“The Agency received distress calls concerning the above which occurred around 0100hrs and activated its emergency response plan.
“On arrival, it was discovered that a fuel tanker loaded with PMS overturned and burst into flames due to the oil spillage. This in turn affected stationary trailers parked inwards Apapa.
“A combined team comprising Lagos fire Services and Agency responders have extinguished the fire
It was gathered that the tanker went up in flames as soon as it overturned while its contained spilled all over the expressway.
“Following the trail of spilled PMS, the fire in no time gutted a truck loaded with beverages from LACASERA as well as another petroleum tanker on the side,” LASEMA wrote on its Twitter handle.
“Operation to remove the affected vehicles is ongoing while road users are encouraged to use alternative routes,” the head of the emergency agency, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu said.
