The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disowned a recruitment portal offering employment opportunities for “eligible” people to apply for positions in the regulatory bank.

A statement signed by the Bank’s acting director of corporate communications, Isa AbdulMumin, said that the recruitment portal is fake as the regulatory bank is not currently embarking on general employment.

The regulatory bank also disputed the content of the ‘fake portal, which directed eligible individuals to submit their Bank Verification Number (BVN) and also excluded people with physical disabilities from employment.

According to AbdulMumin, we will never request the BVN of intending applicants or discriminate against persons with physical disabilities.”

The regulatory bank, therefore, warned members of the public “to be wary of fraudulent recruitment agents bent on taking advantage of the employment challenge to defraud eligible applicants, particularly young graduates.”

“Please be guided accordingly.”

AbdulMumin said that “for the avoidance of doubt, the CBN is currently not carrying out any general recruitment exercise.”

The fraudulent website listed requirements for eligibility for employment in the CBN that included, among other qualifications, the possession of a Bank Verification Number (BVN).

The portal also states that those with physical disabilities are not eligible to apply.
