Ikeja Electric blames load shedding on inadequate power allocation

One of the country’s power distribution companies also known as DisCo, Ikeja Electric on Saturday blamed the incessant power outages in its coverage areas on inadequate allocation received from the transmission firm.

In a tweet on Saturday, the company said it regrets the inconvenience the power outage has caused its customers and assured them that it was engaging with the responsible stakeholders.

While apologizing to its customers, Ikeja Electric said “the current poor power supply you have been experiencing in certain parts of our network lately. This is due to the inadequate allocation received, hence the load shedding.”

The company wrote in the tweet that; “we are engaging the responsible stakeholders in the electricity value chain to improve the situation.”

Some parts of the coverage areas serviced by Ikeja Electric have seen some of the worst power cuts in recent time, with supply drastically reduced to less than five hours daily in some cases.

Grid collapse has become a major challenge to power distributions in the country due to a shortage of gas supply to generation firms and dilapidated infrastructure since the privatization of the power sector in Nigeria.

Though in recent times, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has been showcasing the arrival of new transmission equipment for installation in Lagos and some other parts of the country, this has not significantly impacted on the electricity supply.
