Hoodlums heavily armed on Monday attacked and razed Zone 13 Police headquarters in Ukpo, Anambra state, with witnesses claimed that two policemen were killed during the attack.
According to witnesses, no fewer than four vehicles were set ablaze by the hoodlums as firefighters have arrived to put out the inferno.
The attackers numbered about 20 were said to have arrived at the police zonal headquarters Zone13, Ukpo in the early hours of Monday and set the station on fire.
The development has heightened tension across the State.
A police officer, who pleaded anonymity, said the hoodlums were rebuffed from getting into the armoury department of the place.
“Our men prevented them from having ingress into our armoury. I can’t tell you the number of casualties now because we have scanty information about the development.”
A bystander said there were heavy gunshots before the offices and vehicles were set ablaze.
Officials of the state police command are not to confirm the attack as efforts made to contact Police Public Relations proved futile.
South-Eastern Nigeria has continued to witness an ugly attack on Police formation in the last few months, with the attack on the Imo State Police headquarters early in the month.
