A horrific attack by suspected bandits has plunged Zurak village, in Plateau State’s Wase Local Government Area, into mourning.

Reports indicate that over 40 people were killed, with many others injured, during the assault on Monday evening.

Residents confirmed the attack to journalists, stating that heavily armed bandits arrived on motorcycles and opened fire indiscriminately.

The lack of a strong communication network in the area hampered efforts to raise the alarm, leaving villagers defenseless.

Sahpi’i Sambo, a youth leader, recounted the harrowing scene: “More than 40 people were killed while many others were injured.” Fearing further violence, residents have fled to neighboring communities.

As of Tuesday, security personnel had not reached the village. Efforts to reach state police and military spokespersons for comment proved unsuccessful.

This latest incident underlines the ongoing security challenges plaguing Nigeria’s central region. The brutality of the attack and the apparent lack of immediate response raise serious concerns about the safety and well-being of civilians in the area.

Urgent action is needed from authorities to investigate this attack, apprehend the perpetrators, and improve security measures to prevent future tragedies.
