The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has indicated its intention to appeal a judgment by the Court of Appeal that restricted the operations of the commission to federal roads only.

According to the Corps Marshal, Marshal Dauda Ali Biu, the FRSC will seek with immediate effect a stay of execution of the judgment.

The Court of Appeal in Asaba, Delta State, in Appeal No. CA/AS/276/2019, ruled that the operations of the FRSC should be restricted to only federal roads.

Biu stated that, “We are aware of the judgment from the briefing received from our Legal Representatives.

“However, we have not yet obtained a Certified True Copy of the judgment. Once we receive it, we will carefully review the judgment and make an informed decision. In the meantime, we urge the public to remain calm.”

The Corps Marshal further explained that, based on media reports, the implication of the judgment is that FRSC personnel would be unable to respond to or assist crash victims on roads other than federal roads.
