Saleh Mamman, the first prosecution witness in the trial of former Nigerian Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman testified before the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging that the former minister misused funds from the Mambilla Hydro Project to acquire properties in Abuja. Abubakar Kweido

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged Mamman with 12 counts of conspiracy and money laundering, involving a total of N33.8 billion.

During Thursday’s hearing, Kweido, an EFCC operative, testified before Justice James Omotosho, revealing that investigations indicated that funds meant for the Mambilla Hydro Project were diverted to purchase properties in Kado Estate and Wuse 2, Abuja.

The prosecution’s evidence was presented by counsel Olumide Fusica.

“We presented the investigation findings to the former minister, which he acknowledged in the presence of his lawyer.

However, he denied ownership of the properties, claiming his assistant, Maisbahu Idris, handled funds received from the Mambilla project accountant for staff disbursement,” Kweido testified.

Further investigations led to a search of Mamman’s residence, where foreign currencies and documents tied to Abangus Nig. Ltd were discovered.

The EFCC linked the company to the alleged diversion of funds. Payment vouchers from Bangus Nig. Ltd and recovered cash were submitted as evidence in court.

The case was adjourned by Omotosho to October 23, 2024, for continuation of the trial.
