Ex-Chairman of Sterling Bank, Ighodalo wins Edo PDP governorship primary

A former chairman of Sterling Financial Services, Asue Ighodalo, has been declared the winner of the Edo state governorship primary election of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, who is also the chairman of the electoral committee, declared Ighodalo winning after polling a total of 577 votes, defeating the Deputy Governor of Edo, Phillips Shuaibu, who scored 1 vote.

A total of 584 votes were cast, with six of the votes declared voided.

Ighodalo had also resigned his appointment on the board of the Nigerian Breweries and Sterling Holding Company last year to enable him to participate in the primary election.

He was touted as the preferred candidate of the incumbent governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, who is expected to step down after completing his two-year term next year.

In his acceptance speech, Ighodalo promised to give his all to serve the state by assembling a quality team to take the state to the next level.

He also thanked the state governor, Obaseki, for his good work in the state.
