Emefiele to address bankers at banking conference on Sept 15

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele is expected to speak at this year’s banking and finance conference with the theme: “Facilitating a Sustainable Future: The Role of Banking and Finance” to hold in Lagos and Abuja on September 15-16, simultaneously via teleconferencing.
According to a statement by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), the organiser of the event, stakeholders from the industry are expected to participate at the conference, which will mark the 13th edition.

The statement by CIBN said this year’s theme was predicated on the need to evaluate the role of the Banking and Finance Industry in engendering an inclusive sustainable growth as well as offering direction on how to reposition the Industry for relevance in the new world order, by leveraging on digitalization to boost Nigeria’s economy.
The Conference is an annual forum of professionals in the industry to brainstorm on strategic issues that are critical to building a sound and sustainable financial ecosystem and economy.
The resolutions at the event are usually made available to all the relevant stakeholders and policymakers to enable them re-appraise and align their operations and strategies in line with global best practice.

The Institute said that in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s edition of the Conference, will be executed using the hybrid of virtual and physical platforms, with strict adherence to the preventive protocols against the spread of the pandemic.
While over 2,500 participants, across the globe, are expected to participate virtually, there will be two physical locations for the Conference. The locations are the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja and the Ijewere Hall of the Bankers House, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Dignitaries expected to grace the occasion are: His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila among others.
The Chief Host of the Conference is Mr. Godwin Emefiele, CON, FCIB, Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria while The CIBN President Bayo Olugbemi is the host.
Resource persons at the Conference, include former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business Jumoke Oduwole, MD/CEO, Ecobank Nigeria Patrick Akinwunmi, Chief Executive of StanicIBTC Holdings Demola Sogunle and the CEO of Fidelity Bank, Nnamdi Okonkwo.
Others are First Bank CEO, Adesola Adeduntan, CBN Director of Risk Management, Folakemi Fatogbe, Solape Hammond, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals and Investment; Abubakar Suleiman, GMD/CEO, Sterling Bank Plc and Taiwo Joda, MD/CEO, Accion Microfinance Bank.
