EFCC, quizzes, releases Kano Governor’s wife over N35 mln land deal

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has released the wife of Kano State Governor, Hafsat Umar Ganduje after she was interogated by the operatives of the commission over allegations of $35 million land deal.

Ganduje, who was compelled to report herself to EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Sunday, was quizzed for more than five hours for her alleged involvement in a land scandal.

Hafsat had earlier ignored the EFCC’s invitation after the commission received a petition from her first son Abdulzeez Ganduje, allegeding her involvement in a land fraud in Kano.

The governor’s wife, who was drilled over alleged illegal hijack of land property worth billions of naira, was granted an administrative bill under the influence of her husband.

Governor Ganduje, who accompanied his wife to the EFCC headquarters, was said to have prevailed on the power that is with strong influenced that eventually see to the released of his wife.

The Governor and his wife returned to Kano through Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano Tuesday morning.

Abdulazeez was said to have reported his mother to the commission for corruptly using family power and status for personal enrichment.

According to the report, Abdulazeez in his petition had stated that he was approached by a property developer to help facilitate the acquisition of some plots of land in Kano with some hundreds of thousands of US dollars and at least 35 million naira as “facilitation commission.”

He was said to have paid the money to his mother.

“But three months later, the property developer discovered that the plots of land he wanted and had paid for had been allocated to other buyers. He then requested to be refunded,” a source was quoted to have said.
