Early morning inferno destroys millions of naira worth of property, goods at Apongbon in Lagos

A huge early morning inferno engulfed shops and building around Apongbon area of Lagos on Wednesday as emergency responders trying to put out the fire and control attendant traffic lockjam around the area.

According to sources, the fire started about 2am on Wednesday morning under the Apongbon section of Eko bridge and spreading around buildings and under the Apongbon Bridge and causing huge traffic.

Traders under the Apongbon bridge were trying to salvage some of their goods from being destroyed by the fire.

The fire incident caused gridlock and crippled commercial activities around the Lagos Island area of the state.

Though the cause of the fire incident could not be ascertained at the time of this report, it was learnt that goods worth millions of naira were destroyed by the inferno.

“Traffic from Eko bridge has been re-routed to Ebute-Ero to link inner marina. Men of fire service and other security agencies are still on the ground.

News monitored on TVC showed fire service men and other security agencies trying to put out the fire and control both human and vehicular traffic around the place.

However, a Tweet by @KingFemiAdetayo showed that “:Eko bridge descending to apogbon is currently experiencing shops on fire, I think the fire started under the bridge, traffic had been re-routed to ebute-ero to link inner marina.”
