e-commerce firm rejects old naira notes for PoD as bank customers scramble for new naira

As January 31, the deadline for the phasing out of the old naira notes for the redesigned banknotes approaches, the e-commerce firm, Jumia has advised its customers that it will not collect the old notes by Monday.

In an email to its customers, the e-commerce company said its delivery agents will not collect old naira notes for pay-on-delivery (PoD) goods as from January 30, 2023.

“From Monday 30th January 2023, Jumia Delivery Associates will not be able to accept the old notes of N200, N500, N1,000 sequel to the directive by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“Should you wish to pay by cash, our delivery associates will only accept the new series of notes. Alternatively, you canD NAIRA find details here on how to prepay on Jumia using JumiaPay or call us on 01 888 1106 if there are any further questions.

“We will communicate further in case of any change from the Federal Government or Central Bank.

“Thank you for your understanding,” Jumia stated in the email to customers.

However, other major sales outlets have started rejecting the old notes from customers as many Nigerians troop to the banking halls to get hold of the new naira note and deposit their old banknotes into their account.

Most Automated Teller Machines (ATM) across Lagos and some parts of the country have stop working because the banks have refused to load the new notes
