Customs and Free Trade Zones Authorities collaborate to enhance trade operations in Nigeria

The Acting Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, along with his Management Team, convened a meeting with the Directors of Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) and Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA) to discuss and strengthen trade activities in Nigeria’s Free Trade Zones.

During the meeting, the Acting CG responded to the concerns raised by NEPZA and OGFZA and expressed gratitude for their visit to the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters to congratulate him on his appointment. The meeting aimed to address shared concerns about the future of trade in the country and explore collaborative efforts to enhance the operations of Free Trade Zones in Nigeria.

The Acting CG emphasized the Nigeria Customs Service’s pivotal role in the Free Zone Scheme and reiterated the commitment to implementing trade facilitation policies that promote seamless business opportunities for investors in the country’s Free Zones.

Furthermore, the Acting CG expressed readiness to work in tandem with NEPZA and OGFZA by proposing the formation of a joint committee, along with relevant stakeholders, to address common concerns and foster a more robust partnership.

After the meeting, the Director of Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), Adesoji Adesoba shared his elation with the approach taken by the Acting CG and affirmed their dedication to collaboratively enhance Free Trade Zones in Nigeria.

In a separate interview, Managing Director of Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA), Tijjani Yahya Kaura echoed the sentiment of collaboration, emphasizing the necessity of their joint efforts in finding solutions to shared issues. He expressed satisfaction with the commitment shown by the Acting CG in addressing their concerns.

Both NEPZA and OGFZA are optimistic about the potential of this collaboration, believing it can lead to a “win-win” situation, revolutionizing the landscape of Free Trade Zones in Nigeria and attracting more investors to the nation’s shores.

The meeting signifies a strengthened synergy between the Customs and Free Trade Zones authorities, aimed at bolstering trade operations and fostering a conducive environment for businesses to flourish in Nigeria.
