On Sunday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu took to his social media platform to showcase his cooking skills in celebration of Father’s Day.

His post, which underlined the themes of responsibility, love, and dedication both in the family and as a leader, received a variety of responses from users on the X platform, ranging from humorous to critical.

Governor Sanwo-Olu wrote, “Fatherhood for me is about responsibility, love, and sometimes a call to kitchen duties. It demands sacrifice, patience, and dedication to being the best we can be for our families.

“As a father and leader, I strive to nurture and provide in every role, ensuring my home thrives. The same dedication I bring to my family, I bring to serving Lagos. The love and principles we uphold in our families guide me daily as your governor. Together, we build a stronger, more caring community. Happy Father’s Day.”

The governor’s post featured him neatly dressed in his traditional attire, cooking in a well-appointed kitchen. The responses from users on the platform were diverse and often humorous.

Rotimi Adeola (@rotimiadeola) commented, “Bless you, Governor. My governor is still dey neatly dressed with his ironed smart native inside the kitchen. Ire ooo….”

Another user, @CFC_santis, joked about the governor’s fatherhood, saying, “My Gov., if you like this, your wife, they taste food every minute. Which one Dem go serve you? This is your fatherhood, no reach kitchen. Happy Father’s Day!”

Franklin Benjamin Onoben (@whyteworld_vp) questioned the authenticity of the governor’s cooking session, writing, “So you were (wear) full regalia plus cap to go cook? Or this is just photo-ups? Very cute though, and nice kitchen. I hope to be like you when I grow up. Happy Father’s Day, my Gov.”

Engr. Simdre (@Nemonwa) took a more critical tone, saying, “Fatherhood wey Dey bring soldiers to kpai other fathers children, you will reap what you sow.”

Michael Nwobodo (@nwobodom424) offered practical advice, “Your Excellency, you did well. But try wearing simple clothes next time you enter the kitchen to avoid unnecessary stains. I want to taste that sallah food you prepared. Happy Sallah!”

Others highlighted ongoing issues in Lagos. Olugbenga Koya (@gbengakoya) pointed out the lack of public potable water, saying, “Lagos State citizens do not have access to public portable water, the most basic of things that any responsible government should provide.

“You can fix that while also building infrastructure; they are not mutually exclusive. You guys have totally failed in that regard. Do Better.”

Despite the mixed reactions, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s post has sparked conversations about the balance of leadership and personal life, as well as ongoing challenges faced by Lagosians.
