The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced plans to streamline the issuance of the national ID card by partnering with the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) for distribution.

In a recent update shared on its official platform, NIMC revealed that the cards will be issued through applicants’ respective banks, aligning with established protocols for debit and credit card issuance.

To obtain the card, applicants are required to request it with their National Identification Number (NIN) through various channels, including the self-service online portal, NIMC offices, or their designated banks.

Powered by the AFRIGO card scheme, developed by NIBSS, the national ID card will offer holders convenient access to financial services and other functionalities.

Furthermore, NIMC clarified that cardholders can either collect their cards from designated centers or opt for delivery to a preferred location, albeit at an additional cost to be covered by the applicants.
