Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has voiced his dismay over the recent tragic incident in Rafi Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, wherein a village head and numerous residents were brutally killed in a bandit attack.

Reports indicate that at least 21 individuals, including the village head, met their untimely demise when armed bandits descended upon a bustling market in the agrarian community of Madaka. Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing scene, detailing how the assailants opened fire indiscriminately amidst the bustling market activities.

Expressing his profound concern, Abubakar took to his platform, X, to lament the escalating violence, pointing out that Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has regrettably transformed into what he described as a “killing field.”

In his statement, Abubakar underscored the urgent need for decisive action, advocating for the swift implementation of state police as a crucial step towards tackling the pervasive insecurity plaguing the nation.

“It is disheartening to witness Nigeria devolve into a state of rampant violence. The tragic events in Madaka serve as yet another stark reminder of the prevailing insecurity gripping our nation,” Abubakar remarked.

He continued, emphasising the imperative of prioritising security and expediting the constitutional amendment process to facilitate the establishment of state police forces.

Such a measure, he argued, would empower states and local authorities to deploy tailored strategies to combat the multifaceted challenges posed by insecurity.

Concluding his message, Abubakar extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and expressed solidarity with the government and people of Niger State during this trying time.

As the nation grapples with escalating security concerns, Abubakar’s call for urgent action resonates as a clarion call for concerted efforts towards restoring peace and stability across Nigeria.
