Again, UAE bars Nigerians from traveling to Dubai, others emirates

The authority of the United Arab Emirate (UAE) has suspended flight between the country and Nigeria in with government directive on covid-19 protocol.

This was contrary to the initial lifting of the ban by the government on passengers from Nigeria from June 23.

The UAE had suspended travellers from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Namibia from entering the country on national and foreign flights, effective 23:59 p.m. on Monday, June 21, but spare passengers from Nigeria, according to the state news agency WAM on Sunday.

However, travellers from Nigeria are required to present a negative PCR test taken 48 hours prior to departure and will also undergo another PCR test on arrival in Dubai.

In a travel advisory by the Emirate Airline on Monday, the UAE carrier said “In line with government directives, passenger flights to and from Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja) are suspended with effect from 21 June 2021 until further notice.

“Customers travelling to and from Lagos and Abuja will not be accepted for travel.

“Customers who have been to or connected through Nigeria in the last 14 days are not permitted to board from any other point to the UAE,” the statement said.

The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, and affected customers should contact their booking agent or Emirates call centre for rebooking.

“Emirates remains committed to Nigeria, and we look forward to resuming passenger services when conditions allow.”

Nigeria had last September applied the principle of reciprocity in granting permission to airlines to resume operations, barred Emirate Airlines from flying into the country after the UAE imposed similar ban on Nigeria travellers.

Though Nigeria later lifted the ban, but had again imposed the ban because of the non-cooperation of the government of UAE to allow passengers from Nigeria to enter the country.
