Again, National power grid collapses for the sixth time this year

For the umpteenth time this year, the nation again on Wednesday experienced the collapse of the national power grid, cutting off electricity supply to many homes across the country.

According to a tweet by one of the nation’s power distribution companies, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, the grid collapse occurred at about 11:27 am.

“Dear customers, we regret to inform you of a system collapse on the national grid at precisely 11:27 am today, Wednesday, July 20. We are in talks with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to ascertain the cause of the collapse and a possible restoration timeline.

“We will keep you updated on the situation,” the distribution company wrote on its Twitter account.

The national power grid has collapsed six times this year alone as power generation dropped drastically due to lack of gas, vandalisation and other infrastructural challenges.

The grid collapse has led to power outages in many parts of the country while the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is yet to respond to inquiries on the cause of the latest National Grid collapse.
