About 450 Nigerians fleeing war zone in Ukraine arrive Abuja on board Max Air

About 450 Nigerians largely students fleeing from the ongoing war in the Eastern European country of Ukraine have arrived in Abuja through Max Air.

The first batch of Nigerians evacuated from Ukraine amid the Russian invasion arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 7:11am on Friday.

The federal government on Wednesday, approved $8.5 million for the immediate evacuation of 5,000 Nigerians stranded as a result of the Russia invasion of Ukraine war.

The government earlier scheduled the arrival of the first batch of evacuees for Thursday, but due to logistic reason, the flight have to be rescheduled for Friday.

The evacuees were received at the airport in Abuja by the director search and rescue of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Edward Adedokun; officials of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
