Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Nigeria’s leaders to harness the country’s vast natural resources for national development, emphasizing that effective management is crucial for prosperity.

Speaking on Sunday, Obasanjo, at the 40th anniversary of the Methodist Archdiocese of Abuja, noted that Nigeria has all it needs to thrive but must utilize its abundant assets wisely.

Reflecting on a sermon by Methodist Prelate Dr. Oliver Aba, Obasanjo highlighted the importance of appreciating God’s provisions, including the nation’s rivers, crude oil, and fertile land.

“God has equipped Nigeria with everything necessary for growth,” Obasanjo said. “Like Egypt has the Nile, we have our own resources. Nigeria wasn’t created to struggle—our issue is mismanagement, not scarcity.”

He urged national and religious leaders and citizens to seek God’s guidance to overcome the country’s challenges, attributing the nation’s difficulties to poor governance rather than a lack of resources.

“If we humble ourselves and pray, God will heal our land,” Obasanjo added.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, praised the Methodist Church for its role in education and social justice, urging the church to continue its commitment to peace and service.

Tinubu emphasized the government’s partnership with faith-based organizations to address Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.

Minister of Finance Wale Edun echoed these sentiments, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s economic future and encouraging resilience and faith in the face of difficulties.

Edun added that under President Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria would soon witness economic recovery, citing the Methodist Church’s resilience as a model for national perseverance.

The Methodist Prelate, Oliver Aba urged Nigerians to unite and work together, emphasizing the nation’s significant role on the global stage due to its population and potential.

He encouraged collective action to ensure a prosperous future for the country.
