Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with regions around the world to spur economic development and enhance growth for Lagos residents.

Sanwo-Olu made this statement during a courtesy visit by Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell at the Lagos House, Marina, on Friday.

The meeting was attended by Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted the importance of forging stronger African-Caribbean partnerships, particularly in sectors such as arts, culture, entertainment, tourism, and infrastructure development.

“We are convinced that we share deep historical and cultural ties with the Caribbean, and through your leadership, we believe African-Caribbean relations will flourish,” Sanwo-Olu said, addressing Prime Minister Mitchell.

The governor also emphasized opportunities for collaboration in cultural exchange and tourism, hinting at ongoing talks with airlines to facilitate easier travel between Africa and the Caribbean.

“We are happy to explore deeper bilateral movements in arts and entertainment and look forward to building an ecosystem that fosters business growth across both regions,” Sanwo-Olu added.

Sanwo-Olu praised Dangote for his groundbreaking refinery project in Lagos’ Ibeju-Lekki area, expressing confidence that Nigerians will benefit significantly from this investment.

He lauded Dangote’s courage and vision in executing the refinery, which is expected to bolster Nigeria’s economy in the long term.

Prime Minister Mitchell, in his remarks, said his visit aimed to build on discussions with Sanwo-Olu during a previous visit to Grenada, focusing on trade and investment opportunities.

He praised Nigeria’s achievements in agriculture, fashion, music, and cultural heritage, and discussed plans to improve logistics for goods and people between Grenada and Nigeria.

Mitchell also commended the Lagos State government for fostering a business-friendly environment, especially in support of the Dangote Refinery.

The Prime Minister’s children and several aides accompanied him on the visit, marking their first trip to Nigeria.
